Barbara Schilling is an artist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her oil paintings have been shown in many galleries and art shows throughout Michigan and Ohio. She has received several awards for her impressionist treatment of landscapes. She is particularly noted for her dramatic use of brushwork and color. As a nature lover and avid outdoors person, Barbara collects information for her large studio paintings both through plein air studies and photos. After the initial layout and composition design, she prefers to set all source materials aside and just allow the painting to tell her where it wants to go. There the blend of realism and fantasy begins to develop.
Barbara's work is currently hanging in Frames Unlimited galleries, in Grand Rapids and Bloomfield, Michigan, as well as Woodmere, Ohio. She has framed, handtextured giclees of her paintings available at Robinettes Gallery, in Grand Rapids.
Barbara is an active member of Plein Air Artists of West Michigan, and of OPA (Oil Painters of America).
